`Minority interests will be protected'

KANNUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the party and the Government it heads will protect the interests of the minority communities and are prepared to talk to them to allay their apprehensions on the issue of the Kerala professional colleges Act.

Addressing a massive rally of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) workers to mark the conclusion of the DYFI's three-day State conference here on Friday, Mr. Vijayan said that the LDF Government would not do anything that would harm the interests of the minority communities. They had already been told that the Government was ready for talks on any of their apprehensions regarding the Act, he said.

Actor Murali, CPI(M) leaders E.P. Jayarajan, K.K. Shylaja, M.V. Govindan, A.P. Abdullakutty, SFI State president P. Sindhu Joy and secretary M. Swaraj were present.
