DYFI plans youth corps

To involve youth in a host of activities


KANNUR: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) will constitute a youth volunteer corps to involve the youth in activities ranging from rescue work during natural calamities to developmental initiatives.

This was announced by P. Sreeramakrishnan, newly elected State secretary of the organisation, at a press conference at the venue of its State conference here that concluded on Friday afternoon.

He said the proposal for forming the volunteer corps emerged from the delegates attending the meet. The State committee of the DYFI would go ahead with the proposal, he added.

A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, outgoing secretary, said that the entire panel of office-bearers presented by the outgoing State secretariat was unanimously elected by the delegates.


The conference elected a 73-member State committee. The new office-bearers of the DYFI are M.B. Rajesh (president), P. Sreeramakrishnan (secretary), V.V. Rameshan (treasurer), Babylal, K. Latha, P.V. Gopinath, T.K. Vasu, C.B. Devadarshan (vice-presidents), K.K. Mohammed, Ragi Sakaria, V.A. Sakkeer Hussain, T.V. Rajesh, N. Jagadeeshan (joint secretaries), P.K. Premnath, K.P. Anil, Roy Philip and K.S. Sunil Kumar (secretariat members).

The State conference of the DYFI concluded here with a huge youth rally.

There was a huge turnout of white-clad youth to attend the rally at the Collectorate Maidan in the afternoon.

Resolution adopted

A resolution adopted by the conference called for making the proposed Vizhinjam harbour a reality.

Another resolution urged the Central and State Governments to strengthen the public distribution system to check price rise.

The organisation would effectively intervene to address the `cultural crisis' in the State, a resolution said.
