`Pattaya melas' in all districts

Thiruvananthapuram: `Pattaya melas' will be held in all districts. A high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran on Friday resolved to distribute 25,000 title deeds within the coming one month. The Minister said that the State-level inauguration of the pattaya melas would be at Malappuram on January 20. The melas would be organised in the other districts before March. — Special Correspondent

New BSNL CGM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: S.R. Pillai has taken over as Chief General Manager (CGM) of BSNL, Kerala Circle. He belongs to the 1973 batch of the Indian Telecom Service. — Staff Reporter

Water level down in reservoirs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The water level in major reservoirs in Kerala has gone down. According to figures released by the Central Water Commission for the week ending January 1, at Idukki the level fell from 2382.36 ft to 2380.58 ft, at Kallada from 369.91 ft to 368.67 ft, and at Idamalayar from 537.93 ft to 533.79 ft. When compared with the water level during the same period last year, Kallada and Idukki reservoirs showed a decrease of 9.94 ft and 9.26 ft, while Idamalayar showed an increase of 7.84 ft. — Staff Reporter

Naval Academy Principal

KOCHI: Rear Admiral Andre Aroume has taken over as the first Principal of the Naval Academy, Ezhimala. He is the first officer of the Education branch to be promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral in the navy. Prior to taking over his present appointment he was the Principal Director of Naval Education at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi. — Staff Reporter

Hartal called in Chathannur

KOLLAM: In protest against the alleged attack on the `jyothir yatra' heralding the birth anniversary of Golwalkar at Miyyannur near here on Friday evening, a section of the Hindu organisations have called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the Chathannur Assembly constituency.

Two persons taking part in the jatha were hacked. Their condition was stated to be critical. They have been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. They were identified as Manoj and Sudarshanan.

Pilgrim dies of cardiac arrest

PATHANAMTHITTA: A 50-year-old pilgrim, identified as Rajayya of Theni Sivaram Nagar in Tamil Nadu, died of cardiac arrest at Sannidhanam on Thursday night. The death occurred at the Cardiology Centre of the Sree Ayyappa Health Amenities Society (SAHAS) and the body was later taken to Theni in an Ayyappa Seva Sanghom ambulance, on Friday. — Staff Reporter

Talk on `maarunna Keralam'

KOLLAM: Caricaturist Jayaraj Warrier will address the `maarunna Keralam' talk-series organised by the Kollam Press Club as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the State's formation, at 11 a.m. at the Press Club Hall on Saturday. Mr. Warrier will talk on `acting and songs of Malayalam cinema during the past fifty years.' — Staff Reporter.

Body found

Thrissur: The body of Krishnankutty, 61, a fisherman, was found in the Banglankadavu river on Friday. The police said that Krishnankutty drowned after his boat capsized at 1.30 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons. — Staff Reporter

Pilgrim dies of cardiac arrest

PATHANAMTHITTA: A 50-year-old pilgrim, identified as Rajayya of Theni Sivaram Nagar in Tamil Nadu, died of cardiac arrest at Sannidhanam on Thursday night. The death occurred at the Cardiology Centre of the Sree Ayyappa Health Amenities Society (SAHAS) and the body was later taken to Theni in an Ayyappa Seva Sanghom ambulance.
