President and vice-president resign

BIJAPUR: Though zilla panchayat president Arjun Rathod and vice-president Shivanagouda Patil have resigned from their posts, the general body meeting of the panchayat will be held on January 8.

Notification

Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Ranjan has issued a notification in this regard.

According to official records, both are still holding office and submission of resignation letters to their party (Congress) leadership will have little significance.

Mr. Rathod will preside over the meeting, sources said.

However, Opposition members are expected to question the propriety of this.

Understanding

They have put in their papers to pave the way for others, honouring the understanding reached before their election on January 30, 2006. The Congress is yet to finalise the names of their successors.
