Staff Correspondent
Gulbarga: "The Gulbarga airport will be of world class. We will equip it to handle aircraft of all sizes and designs," Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey said here on Friday. The airport will have a 3.3 km runway to handle aircraft such as Boeing 747. "We have acquired 567 acres of land for the purpose. We need an additional 125 acres of land," he said. A Tanda that was in the proposed area for the airport would have to be shifted. Acquisition of land would be on the basis of consent of landowners, he said. Payment of compensation would be based on the model followed while acquiring land for the Upper Krishna Project. A sum of Rs. 8.5 crore would be needed for land acquisition and construction of a compound. An additional Rs. 5 crore would be needed, he said. Village-wise programme for shifting the villages on the banks of the Bhima and the Krishna would be prepared. The Government had released Rs. 10 crore for relief work, Mr. Pande said.
