Protest against execution of Saddam Hussein

Staff Correspondent

Effigy of U.S. President George Bush burnt

Bidar: Members of the Bidar Literates Circle and other organisations staged a protest here on Friday against the capital punishment to former ruler of Iraq Saddam Hussein.

The members gathered at Gawan Chowk and took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Slogans

The members raised slogans against U.S. President George Bush and other leaders.

They burnt the effigy of Mr. Bush in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office. They submitted a memorandum addressed to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to the officials at the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Not fair

Saddam's trial was not fair. World bodies were not taken into confidence.

"We condemn the punishment given to Saddam Hussein. Hanging the president of a country is immoral, irrational and is a crime. Those responsible for this act should be tried in the International Court of Justice," the memorandum said. They demanded that India raise the issue in the United Nations.

Demand

The members also demanded that Mr. George Bush and Noor Al Maliki, Prime Minister of Iraq, be treated as war criminals.

Circle chairman Syed Mansoor Ahmed Quadri, Mohammad Saifuddin Suhail, Mohammad Nissar, Abdul Nayeem Qirmani, Syed Kaleem, Mohammad Mukhtar Ahmed, Mohammad Abdusssalam, and Azeem led the members of various organisations.
