KOLLAM: The trade union leaders of pro-Left parties have called upon the private sector cashew processors to start paying the revised minimum wages to the cashew workers. At a press conference here on Friday, trade union leaders J. Mercykutty and E. Kassim (CITU), A. Fazaluddin Haq (AITUC) and A.A. Aziz, MLA, (UTUC) said that as per the Government notification on December 18, 2006, the revised minimum wages for cashew workers came into effect from January 1. The leaders said that while some of the private sector processors have implemented the new wages, some have partially implemented it. Many are yet to implement it. The Left trade unions will launch agitations in front of factories were the revised minimum wages have not been implemented. The entire private sector should implement the new minimum wages for the survival of the cashew industry in the State, they said.
