Flag-hoisting ceremony at Omalloor Cross

PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual Manjanikkara festival and the 75th feast of the Syrian Patriarch St. Elias III will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Diara at Manjanikkara from February 4 to 13.

Addressing a press conference at the Manjanikkra Diara on Tuesday, Kuriakose Mar Julios, Geevarghese Mar Dionysious and Public Works Minister T.U. Kuruvila, who is also the general convener of the festival, said the annual festival would begin with the flag-hoisting ceremony at Omalloor Cross and at the St Ignatius Diara Cathedral at Manjanikkara after the holy Eucharist on February 4.

Mar Julios will be the chief celebrant at the flag-hoisting ceremony.

The patriarchal flag will be hoisted at all Jacobite Churches in the State. Pilgrims to the saint's tomb will be accorded a rousing reception at Omalloor Cross on February 12.

Patriarch of Antioch, Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, will preside over a public meeting to be held as part of the platinum jubilee of the feast at 6.30 p.m. on February 12. Catholicos Baselius Thomas I, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthananandan, Union and State Ministers and religious heads will address the meeting.

The feast will conclude with the holy Eucharist followed by prayers at the saint's tomb on February 13.
