CUTTACK: The students of SCB Medical College and Hospital here have stepped the ante to remove a professor from examination duty for what they call the latter's `vindictive attitude' towards some students. Tension prevailed on the college campus on Friday when over 500 students squatted in front of the principal's office demanding immediate removal of J J Mallick of gynaecology department from his dual post of chief of examiner and chairman of the college council of warden. Prof. Mallick had, however, tendered his resignations from the both the posts on Tuesday last. According to reports he was forced to put in his papers as a section of students alleged that Prof. Mallick was acting in a malicious manner while evaluating their answer sheets. His resignations were not immediately accepted by the college authorities and principal N K Mohanty had decided to put the matter before the staff council for a decision. When the staff council met at the principal's chamber on the day, the irate students squatted in front of the principal' office demanding immediate removal of the professor from examination duty. The students also submitted a five-point charter of reasons as to why Mallick should be kept away from the duty. When contacted, the principal refused to divulge anything about the day's development to media. He, however, said that no decision had been taken about the fate of Mallick as the college council decided to leave the entire matter to the university authorities. On the other hand, Prof. Mallick was incommunicado despite repeated attempts to contact him.
