BHUBANESWAR: A woman who tried to commit suicide in the official chamber of Minister for Information and Public Relation Debasish Nayak six months ago died after she reportedly consumed poison on Friday. Around 2 p.m., Urmila Rout, 33, was found lying near the busy AG Square. The Police Control Room vehicle picked her and admitted her in the nearby hospital. "Doctors tried their best but could not save her," Inspector in-charge of Capital Police Station Harihar Dora said. The woman met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday and she was reportedly assured of all cooperation. Police sources said Urmila belonged to Badadandi village and married one Babru Bahan Rout in 2001. After a few months, they separated. Rout was arrested and produced in court after Urmila lodged an FIR that she was being tortured for dowry. The woman even approached the State Commission for Women and the State Human Rights Commission. Sources said since the case was pending in court, nobody acted on her pleas. On June 17, Urmila tried to commit suicide in the chamber of Mr. Nayak . She had been staging a dharna in front of Chief Minister's residence since December 29. When she was forcibly taken into custody, she shunned food. Khurda district Collector and Superintendent of Police finally arranged a meeting with the Chief Minister.
