BHUBANESWAR: The State Election Commission on Friday issued notices to Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai and Industry Minister Biswabhushan Harichandan for alleged violation of the model code of conduct that was in force in view of the coming panchayat polls.
Varsity annual day
Both the Ministers attended the 40th annual day function of Sambalpur University on Thursday where they highlighted the achievements of the Biju Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party Government that amounted to violation of the election code. The commission, which issued the notices, on the basis of newspaper reports had asked the Ministers to file their reply by January 9.
Directive to official
The commission also directed the District Magistrate of Sambalpur, who is the Election Officer for the district, to file a report by January 9 after examining the Vice-Chancellor of the university and other witnesses.
Action as per law
If the allegations were found to be true, the commission would initiate action against the Ministers in accordance with the law, according to an official release.
