ONGOLE: All India Youth Congress general secretary, Deepti Mary Verghese, has said that the Youth Congress committees in all states would be reorganised in a bid to make them play a more active role in welfare and development activities. Speaking to newspersons here today, Ms Verghese said that the Youth Congress has been inactive for the last five years and the cadre lacked direction. She exhorted the youth to work hard and see that the Government programs reached the targeted sections. She assured the youth that their services would be recognised and rewarded by the party later.
RTI benefits
Earlier, addressing district meeting of the Youth Congress, she wanted the youth to fight against terrorism, communal violence and social evils plaguing the Indian society today. Saying that the UPA Government had introduced rural employment guarantee programme (REGP) to check migration of youth from villages to towns in search of work, she asked the youth to see that it is implemented properly. She said that the workers are paid by cheques to avoid misuse of the scheme as happened during earlier regimes. She asked the youth to make use of Right to Information Act to get information on various welfare programs being implemented by State and Central Governments and use it to check corruption and ensure that the benefits reached the people. Ongole MP, Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, extolled the youth for playing key role in ensuring the victory of the Congress in the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
