17 killed in ULFA attacks

Guwahati: Seventeen persons were killed and 12 injured in five incidents of firing on Bihari brick kiln workers and petty shopkeepers by suspected militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts on Friday.

Tinsukia district Deputy Commissioner A.K. Absar Hazarika told The Hindu that eight persons, most of them Hindi-speaking, were killed in three incidents of firing at Longsai, Balurghat of Doomdoom police station and in a bomb blast at Dighaltarang under the same police station between 5.30 p.m. and 8.10 p.m.

IGP (Law and Order) D.K. Pathak said seven persons were killed and four injured when suspected ULFA militants opened fire on brick kiln workers at Jeypore and Tingrai of Dibrugarh district.
