3-year-old boy's body exhumed

  • Dastagir killed in accident while playing on road
  • Cases filed against MIM corporator, son

HYDERABAD: The body of three-year-old boy Mohd. Dastagir, who was killed in a road accident allegedly involving MIM's Moghalpura corporator Harun Khan's son Meroj Khan's vehicle four days ago, was exhumed on Friday.

Meroj was driving a jeep when he lost control and rammed it into the boy who was playing on the roadside near Moghalpura, Mirchowk ACP Ashok Kumar Singh said. Passers-by shifted the boy to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Interestingly, boy's parents did not lodge any complaint. One of the locals who rushed the boy to the hospital alerted the police and gave the number of the vehicle that hit the boy. After trying in vain to trace the parents, the police registered a case, suo motu, against Meroj.

On Friday, they traced Dastagir's parents — Raheema Bee and Syed Omar — who told the police that the corporator gave them Rs. 10,000 not to lodge any complaint about the accident.

The police invoked sections 304-A (causing death by rash and negligent act) and 201 (screening evidence) of the IPC against Meroj and under Section 201 against his father. Both of them are absconding.
