CHENNAI: The Premier Hockey League began with a show high on entertainment and good looks at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey stadium on Thursday. Shyam and Paloma of SS Music compered the show that featured singer Vasundhara Das, model and item girl Yana Gupta and actor Madhavan, who has been appointed mascot of the Chennai Veerans. The other teams participating are the Hyderabad Sultans, Bangalore Lions, Chandigarh Dynamos, Maratha Warriors, Orissa Steelers and the Sher-e-Jallandhar. Each team has its own celebrity mascot to give the game a glamour quotient. There was plenty of glamour at the stadium as Vasundhara Das performed `Where's the party tonight', `Shakalaka Baby' and other hits. A dazzlingly dressed Yana danced to `Beedi Jalai' from Omkara, `Manmadan', in which she originally featured, and `Babuji', the song that showcased her dancing abilities. Then it was Maddy's turn to come on stage to egg the audience to cheer for his team. He said they were not only high on talent, but also good looking, headed by the dashing captain Adam Sinclair. Spectators were easily wooed and cheered for the home team. The series is on till February 4 at the hockey stadium, Egmore. Each team features a few high-profile international players.
