Tight security throws normal life out of gear

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Heavy security that marked the visit of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Friday threw normal life out of gear for hours on Friday night along several stretches in the city. The city police had put in place traffic regulations since evening for Mr. Kalam's visit to participate in the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Chennai City Police.

The Beach Road to Adyar and beyond was sealed to traffic well before 8.15 p.m. It was around 11.30 p.m. when normal traffic was restored. Residents complained that the skeleton strength of traffic police resulted in chaotic situations.
