CHENNAI : Mediapersons covering a seminar on "traffic management" held at the State Crime Records Bureau auditorium were asked to leave the hall here on Friday. The Chennai City Police is celebrating its 150th year and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi inaugurated the function on Thursday. As part of the "historic" event, the police had organised a seminar on two topics "every day management of traffic in metros" in the forenoon session and "emerging challenges of cyber crime in cities" in the afternoon session. Commissioner of Police Letika Saran welcomed the gathering. Director General of Police D. Mukerjee was present. Later, Additional Director General of Police (Civil Supplies CID) N. Balachandran, who chaired the forenoon session, invited Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bangalore, M. N. Reddy to present his paper. Suddenly, a few policemen in plainclothes requested the scribes to vacate the hall. When asked, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore told The Hindu that the seminar was only for officers.
Frank discussion
"We want the Press to stay away during the technical session so that we can discuss issues frankly."
