UPA reopens talks with Left parties on pension reforms

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre on Friday re-opened a dialogue with the Left parties on the future of the new pension scheme.

A meeting took place with Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat and Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and P. Chidambaram on the issue, official sources said.

The UPA Government has been attempting to break the stalemate on the issue since the Left parties have repeatedly expressed opposition to any move to park the pension funds in the stock market or in the hands of private mangers.
