Deadline extended again

Staff Reporter

Capital's traders get 10 more days to get themselves registered

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee has again extended the deadline for online registration of shops and businesses in the Capital till January 15. This is the second time that the deadline has been extended. Initially traders and professionals were supposed to complete the registration process by December 31, which was later extended to January 5.

As per the Supreme Court directions, more than 3-lakh traders running shops and businesses on newly notified roads and those engaged in small trades and business in residential areas, besides four types of professionals, are supposed to get their shops and businesses registered. But so far only about 2.75 lakh traders have completed the process.

After getting representations from trade organisations and the MCD administration and leaders, the Monitoring Committee decided to extend the deadline yet again. It was also noticed that though some traders had completed the online registration process, they had failed to submit their requisite fees and other relevant documents. So it was decided to give them more time to complete the entire registration process.

Meanwhile, the MCD squads on Friday sealed 341 illegal commercial properties in residential areas. While 128 premises were sealed at Gulabi Bagh (Sanjay Nagar Road) falling in Sadar Paharganj Zone, 113 were targeted on the stretch between Sai Chowk and Agrasen Apartments, between Amrapali Apartments and Prince Apartments, between Mother Dairy and Swati Apartments, between Kailash Apartments and Parivar Apartments and at other places in I.P. Extension in Shahdara-South Zone.

Similarly, in the sealing drive carried out in Najafgarh Zone, 52 premises were targeted on Dhansa Road, while 29 units were sealed at Shivaji Enclave in West Zone and 19 at Malkaganj in Civil Lines Zone.

The MCD has so far sealed 4,339 premises since the sealing drive resumed on November 8 last year.
