MUVATTUPUZHA: Aluva educational sub-district was leading the overall point tally when results of 47 events were declared on the fourth day of the Ernakulam district schools arts fete, on Friday. Aluva bagged 382 points. Thripunitura was at the second position with 348 points followed by Mattancherry with 344 points.

In the UP category, Aluva was leading the race with 169 points. Mattancherry was at second position with 168 points while Perumbavoor won 158 points to emerge third in the competition.

Barring a few, most of the events caught the attention of the judges and the public for its quality. Group dance was the talk of the town with all participating teams getting `A'grade. Judges for the event praised the students for their exceptional performance. "It was a very tough competition to judge," they said.

St. Mary's AIHS, Fort Kochi, came first in spite of stiff competition from other teams. Mono Act competition in the UP category witnessed the bloom of young talents. While showering praises on the participants, the judges pointed out that the students portrayed characters that never matched their age. "Increasing incidents of domestic violence against women and other serious issues were presented on stage by the children. We would suggest that teachers should try to give characters that suits the age of these students," the judges said.

Nikhila P.S. of St. Joseph's CGUPS, Thripunithura, walked away with the first prize in the competition. Aluva and Ernakulam educational sub-districts were engaged in a keen fight for the overall championship in the high school category.

The results might change on the final day of the arts fete, on Saturday. Literary competitions and band event would be the major highlights of the last day. Thirteen teams will participate in the band competition.
