Reception on Sunday

KOCHI: The Varappuzha Archdiocese will accord a reception to the 132 bishops from 129 Latin Catholic dioceses across the country, who are attending the 19th plenary of the Council of Catholic Bishops of India at Aluva. The reception will be held at the Vallarpadam basilica on Sunday afternoon. — Special Correspondent

Assumes charge

Kochi: S. Anantha Narayanan has assumed charge as Director of the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, Kochi. He has been working as a scientist with the Laboratory since 1978. He had earlier received the `DRDO scientist of the year award for his contributions to the induction of several indigenous sonar systems to the Indian Navy. — Staff Reporter

Diesel loco shed not to be shifted

Kochi: The Diesel loco shed located at Ernakulam will not be shifted from the State. This was communicated by Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu, said a statement issued by K.V. Thomas, MLA. — Staff Reporter

Maharajas College to reopen on Monday

Kochi: The Ernakulam Maharaja's College will start functioning from Monday and the men's hostel from Thursday. The college was closed for the past few days following student clashes. It has also been decided that only students and inmates of the hostel would be permitted into the college and the hostel. — Staff Reporter

National conference on allergy

KOCHI: The national conference of the Indian Academy of Allergy (IAA) will begin here from Saturday at Riviera Suites. A workshop on allergic diseases was held as part of the national meet on Friday prior to the two-day scientific session. About 250 delegates are participating in the conference. — Staff Reporter
