Water supply to be affected tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: Distribution of piped water will be affected in certain areas of the city for nearly four hours from 2 p.m. on Sunday. The areas likely to be affected are Vellayambalam, Palayam, Sasthamangalam, Vazhuthacaud, Statue, Kunnumpuram, Ayurveda College, Overbridge, Kannanmoola, Pettah, Chakkai, Veli, P.M.G. Junction, Pattom, Thirumala, Vattiyoorkavu, P.T.P. Nagar, Thirumala, Kanjirampara, Karamana, Kalady, Kulathara, Thaliyal, Pappanamcode and Neeramankara. The Kerala Water Authority said the supply was being cut for carrying out some urgent works at the Aruvikkara and Thirumala reservoirs.

Convict escapes

Thiruvananthapuram: A 50-year-old convict, Babu, who was serving a life term for murder at the Poojappura Central Prison, escaped when brought for treatment to the Government medical college hospital here on Friday. The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. Four warders had escorted Babu and eight other prisoners to the hospital, an official said.

Woman dead

Thiruvananthapuram: A 55-year-old woman who was being brought to the Government medical college hospital with a safety pin lodged in her throat, died on the way to hospital. She was identified as Meenakshi, a native of Chathannoor. — Staff Reporter

Educational CDs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) has brought out audio CDs as learning aids for visually challenged students writing this year's SSLC examinations. The CDs, named SSLC Top Winner, will be distributed free of cost. A press note says the CDs in English and Malayalam have been prepared with the help of expert teachers. The CDs will be released at the School for the Blind, Vazhuthacaud, by Minister for Education M.A. Baby on January 8. — Staff Reporter
