Woman ends life, husband arrested

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A 28-year-old woman, mother of a nine-month-old baby girl, ended her life by hanging herself at her house in Okalipuram on Wednesday night owing to "torture" by her husband for more dowry.

The police gave her name as Leela Anitha Kumari, a B.Sc. (Computer Science) graduate. She married Daniel Wesley (32), a customer care officer with a private bank, three years ago.

He was allegedly torturing her to get more money from her parents for constructing a house. The couple had a fight over the issue on Tuesday night. On Wednesday night, Leela had hanged herself from a ceiling fan, the police said.

On a complaint by her parents, the Srirampuram police have registered a case of dowry death and arrested Daniel.

Man's body found

An unidentified man aged around 45 was found murdered on the outskirts of the city in Kadugodi police station limits on Thursday morning.

The police said passers-by had found the body lying near a railway gate at Kumbenaagrahara on Sadaramangala Road and informed the police.

Convicted

The XI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court has sentenced a KSRTC bus driver to 10 months' simple imprisonment and imposed on him a fine of Rs. 1,000 for standing surety to a theft accused by producing a fake document.

A charge sheet filed by the Ashoknagar Police said that on August 28, 2005, K.P. Puttaraju, a resident of 2nd Block, Jayanagar, had produced a fake salary certificate in the XI ACMM court and provided surety to a person arrested by the Viveknagar Police in a theft case. As Puttaraju had remained absent from work for long and was not getting his salary, he had created a fake salary certificate, it added.
