Blood donation drive by CPWD
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) in association with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and other Central and State Government departments has formed the "Bangalore Blood Donation Drive Society" and will organise a mega blood donation camp on January 30 (Martyrs' Day) from 6 a.m. onwards at Sri Kanteerva Indoor Stadium.
S. Chinnaswamy, Chief Engineer, CPWD and Chairman, Organising Committee, told presspersons here on Friday that society had collaborated with 50 blood banks from in and around Bangalore for the camp and 10,000 are expected to be collected at the mega camp. Celebrities and sports personalities are expected to participate in the programme.
"We plan to collate a database of the voluntary blood donors who participate in this camp for future use. There is a huge gap between the demand for blood and supply. In Karnataka, annually 5.5 lakh units are required while the supply was only 3.98 lakh units. In Bangalore alone, 800 units are required daily," Mr. Chinnaswamy said.
Those who wish to register may do so online on the website www.megablooddonation.kar.nic.in.
