Bank lending in Wayanad registers increase

Total disbursement has registered an increase of 41 per cent


  • Rs.318 crore disbursed to agriculture sector
  • Credit-deposit ratio is more than 100 per cent

    KOZHIKODE: Banks in Wayanad disbursed Rs.374 crore under the priority sector during the first half of the current financial year.

    Of this, Rs.318 crore was disbursed to agriculture sector, Rs.3 crore to the SSI sector and Rs.53 crore to other priority sectors.

    It marks an increase in spending compared to the previous year.

    Corresponding figures for the first half of the last fiscal was Rs.221 crore for agriculture, Rs.2 crore for SSI and Rs.42 crore for other priority sector.

    Total disbursement for the period was Rs.265 crore. It shows an increase of 41 per cent.

    During the first quarter of the financial year, the total disbursement was Rs.161 crore where as it is Rs.213 crore for the second quarter. The credit-deposit ratio is 171 per cent at the end of September this financial year. It was 154 per cent in June 2005 and 176 per cent in June 2006.

    Wayanad is the only district in Kerala where the credit-deposit ratio is more than 100 per cent. The total deposit outstanding in the district as on September 2006 was Rs.821 crore and loan outstanding Rs.1,405 crore. The information was announced at the District-Level Review Committee Meeting for Banking Development held at Kalpetta on Friday.

    The meeting reviewed the performance of banks in the district for the second quarter of the financial year 2006-2007 and was presided over by Sharmila Mary Joseph, District Collector, Wayanad, and the chairman of the District Consultative Committee for Banking Development.

    Wayanad district panchayat president Sarasamma, Canara Bank Calicut Circle Office Deputy General Manager K. Gopalakrishnan, Reserve Bank of India Lead District Officer L.M. Ganeshan, NABARD District Development Manager P.S. Radhakrishnan, Lead District Manager S. Pavithran and E.V. Ravindran, manager, Canara Bank, Kalpetta, spoke at the function.
