Call for policy to integrate HIV victims

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Centre for Social Research (CSR) has called for a policy in Government offices and other organisations to integrate HIV/AIDS victims into income generating activities.

With the number of HIV/AIDS victims on the rise in the country, the Centre said mainstreaming these persons in organisations had become imperative to fight the stigma and discrimination at the family, community and village levels. "Government organisations and non-government organisations should have clear cut policies on HIV/AIDS as they tie up with individuals and organisations across the country," said CSR Director Ranjana Kumari.

Such a policy would ensure that HIV positive persons earned a living, she said.

The Centre has chalked out ways to integrate HIV affected persons at the workplace. The CSR had earlier integrated an HIV positive woman who now runs a floriculture business.
