KOLKATA : Railways continued its dominance in women's handball retaining the National title in style here on Saturday. The railway women cruised to their second successive title triumph drubbing Maharashtra 42-18 in the final of the 35th National handball championship held at the St. Thomas Girls School complex. Anita Yadav scored almost half the goals 19 to be precise in the Railways tally. The star performer in the final saw the holder stamp its authority right from the start. Maharashtra, which raised hopes beating strong Manipur in the semifinals, never found a footing against a rampaging opposition. Starting on a breezy note, Raliways amassed a 10-goal lead in the half time for a 22-12 scoreline. The barrage of goals continued after the break as Anita, who was later adjudged the player of the tournament, and Anamika (scoring 9 goals) helped Railiways almost double its first half score. On the other hand Maharashtra could score only half the goals it managed in the opening session. In the classification play-offs, Chhattisgarh took the third position beating Manipur in the match of the losing semifinalists. Last year's runner-up Kerala had to be content with the fifth position it gained from beating Punjab while Delhi took the seventh position beating Haryana. Kerala was also awarded the prize for the most disciplined team - modeled on the fair play award in football. The results: Final: Railways 42 bt Maharashtra 18. Classification play-off: 3rd-4th place: Chhattisgarh 26 bt Manipur 16; 5th-6th place: Kerala 13 bt Punjab 10.
