BJP bid to form third front

Staff Reporter

Demands a CBI inquiry into the allegations in SNC Lavalin deal

  • State president P.K. Krishnadas says LDF Government has lost collective responsibility
  • Seeks details of ADB loan conditionalities

PALAKKAD: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary A.N. Ananth Kumar, MP, said here on Saturday that the BJP was trying to form a third front in Kerala against the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

Inaugurating a two-day State committee meeting of the party, Mr. Ananth Kumar said the people were disillusioned with both the Fronts. There will be a realignment of political forces in the State, paving the way for the emergence of a third alternative, he said.

Mr. Ananth Kumar demanded a CBI inquiry into the allegations in the SNC Lavalin case. Delivering the presidential address, BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas said the LDF Government in Kerala was only a continuation of the previous UDF Government. Referring to the alleged factionalism in the CPI(M), he said the LDF Government had lost collective responsibility.

He demanded the resignation of the LDF Government, alleging that it had filed a false affidavit in the High Court on the SNC Lavalin case. Mr. Krishnadas said the Government should reveal details of the ADB loan conditionalities. He said there were alternatives to the ADB loan. However, the Government did not examine it. For example, under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, an amount of Rs.50,000 crore was made available in the last Union budget for local bodies. Eighty per cent of this amount comes as Central assistance.

Thiruvanathapuram and Kochi Corporations were already included in this scheme.

Staff Reporter writes from Palakkad: The State committee meeting of the BJP, in a resolution here on Saturday, demanded that the State and Union governments bring a comprehensive farm package to help the crisis-ridden agriculture sector in Kerala.

The resolution moved by P.J. Thomas demanded that the Government write off all loans taken by farmers.
