Plea against non-disclosure of marks

CHENNAI: A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court challenging non-disclosure of civil services examination marks by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The petitioner, M. Anusha, said that as a norm the UPSC did not disclose the marks secured by candidates in the preliminary examinations. Describing it as "lack of transparency," she said the practice would encourage "rigging of scores by vested interests."

As for the main examination, the petitioner said the mode of selection was never revealed. Pointing out that the UPSC had introduced a negative marks system from this year, she said the non-disclosure of marks and the answer keys, in addition to the negative mark system, would affect the prospects of candidates. She prayed for the quashing of a notification, dated December 6, issued by the UPSC.
