WARM WELCOME: Mata Amritanandamayi being led to the venue of `Amritotsavam 2007' in the city on Saturday.
KOZHIKODE: A civic reception was accorded to Mata Amritanandamayi at the Corporation Stadium here on Saturday. Over one lakh people from Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Malappuram gathered to have a `darshan' of the Mata at the function, titled Amritotsavam 2007, which began at 6 p.m. Right from the morning, scores of buses carrying the devotees started arriving in the city. Hundreds of devotees were seen proceeding to the stadium on foot and by other vehicles. The Mata was led to the venue after receiving her with a Poorna Kumbhom. `Amrita Prasadam,' a souvenir, was released at the function. Pension certificates and sewing machines were distributed. The Mata inaugurated the Amritasree Self-Help Group (SHG) on the occasion. Kozhikode Zamorin P.K.S. Raja, Electricity Minister A.K. Balan, Forest Minster Benoy Viswom, film actor Balachandra Menon and Soorya Krishnamurthi were present at the function. Mr. Balan distributed the sewing machines. Film actor Kaviyoor Ponnama distributed the pension certificates for the destitute. The Mata later addressed the gathering.
