TALENTED DUO: Prajwal and Devaki have given excellent performance
Cast: Prajwal Devraj, Avinash, Rangayana Raghu, Adi Lokesh, Devaki and Chitra Shenoy Director Shashank's maiden venture Sixer infuses some freshness into the bleak landscape of Kannada cinema. It also launches a young and talented artiste Prajwal Devraj, son of veteran Kannada and Telugu artiste Devraj. Sixer attempts to relate a boy's passion for cricket with nascent love in the backdrop of the manoeuvrings of the underworld. Rahul (Prajwal Devaraj), a talkative college student, joins the underworld gangster Khandre (Adi Lokesh) to earn enough to join a cricket academy. Khandre exploits Rahul's ability to approach and win over people to prevent the marriage of Swathi (Devaki), the daughter of his rival Malpe Nayaka (Rangayana Raghu) to a Minister's son. Caught in the clutches of the Khandre, Rahul decides to woo Swathi for a lark. The machinations among Rahul, Swathi, Khandre and Nayaka form the rest of the story. Director Shashank's skill in juxtaposing the murky underworld with the innocent yet confused relationship between a teenaged boy and girl stands out. However, the screenplay is patchy and situations unrealistic. Excellent performance by Prajwal and Devaki and good comedy by Rangayana Raghu and Adi Lokesh hold audience interest. Cricketer Kirmani too has played a role as a cricketer.
