Narayana Murthy backs Buddhadeb
Staff Reporter
N. R. Narayana Murthy
BANGALORE:
Chief mentor of Infosys Technologies N.R. Narayana Murthy on Saturday supported the stand of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on the Singur issue.
Speaking to journalists here, Mr. Murthy said he had done the right thing to keep the commitment made to the Tatas. "I am proud of Mr. Bhattacharjee for taking the proper stand on the Singur issue."
Quoting Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury, he said the farmers had low probability of using the land as the holdings were small. They were getting 50 per cent more than the market price for the land that would be acquired.
Earlier, addressing a joint press conference with Cornell University president David J. Skorton, Mr. Murthy said Indian universities and research institutions could collaborate with the university in agricultural research and policy planning.
