Shimoga
Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA: Secretary in-charge of Shimoga district Siddaiah on Saturday took serious note of the complaints that the owners of ration shops were not distributing kerosene to household cardholders properly. He instructed the official concerned of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to visit the spot immediately and solve the problem. Mr. Siddaiah was addressing the Public Grievances Review Meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's office where he received several complaints regarding the distribution of foodgrains and other essential commodities under the public distribution system.
Harassment
When he came across the complaint that the ration shop owners in the Tunga Nagar were harassing the cardholders for distributing the kerosene, he said that the problem should be sorted out immediately. He asked the taluk level nodal officers to look into complaints that cardholders were being cheated in the measurement of the kerosene. He told them to inquire into the complaint that the kerosene was not distributed for the last one month. Mr. Siddaiah asked the officials to take action against the owner of ration shop in Bhadravati as the complaint against him that he was not behaving properly with cardholders had been proved.
Discrepancies
When the former Municipal Councillor K.S. Gangadharaih said that the ration was not distributed to the cardholders for the last one month and that there were serious discrepancies in the cards already distributed, Mr. Siddaiah said the district received only 20,000 quintals of rice as against the sanctioned allocation of 51,500 quintals. He said that the remaining part of the sanctioned rice would be distributed in a day or two. He said that 2.13 lakh BPL cards and 1.80 APL cards had been distributed in the district whereas the number of complaints with regard to the distribution of cards was around 2.30 lakh, which meant that nearly fifty percent of the population in the district were poor. "It cannot be the real position," he said adding that the distribution of the ration cards could be taken up in a fool-proof manner if the public and leaders of various organisations cooperated with the department.
Quality
He asked the officials concerned to ensure that the food being supplied under the "Akshara Dasoha" scheme to government schools was of a good quality. Assistant Commissioner S.H. Vijaykumar, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner M. Omkarmurthy, Deputy Secretary of the Zilla Panchayat Hemachandra, Chief Planning Officer of the zilla panchayat K. Hemaji Naik and Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Shivanna were present.
