CHENNAI:
Four districts, Thiruvarur, Vellore, Madurai and Kancheepuram, have received the second instalment of Rs. 15.86 crore for the current financial year, under the Centre's Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana.
The grant will be utilised for approved works subject to the SGRY guidelines. The expenditure on implementation of the programme with regard to the cash component is to be shared between the Centre and the State on a 75:25 ratio.
The scheme is aimed at providing additional wage employment to the poor who are willing to do manual and unskilled work in and around their villages/habitats. While providing wage employment, preference shall be given to agricultural wage earners, non-agricultural unskilled wage earners, marginal farmers, women, members of the Schedule Castes/Schedule Tribes, parents of child labour withdrawn from hazardous occupations and parents of handicapped children or adult children of handicapped parents, according to a Rural Development department official here.
