GUNTUR : Using wireless LAN in computer networking based on microwaves poses a threat to human health and switching over to High Frequency band is essential, opined experts. Delivering a guest lecture at Tellakula Jalayya Polisetty Somasundaram College here on Saturday on `Wireless LAN using HF Band', KLC Engineering College professor S. Venkateswarlu said that HF band was preferable in view of the potential it holds with regard allocation of frequencies, coverage of an institution or industry with good signal, and relative cheaper cost.
Radiation loss
He emphasised on the health aspect and said there was very low radiation loss and effective transmission of message/data of any length was possible. The TJPS College Department of Computer Science Head A. Bhanu Muralidhar explained the merits and demerits of Wireless LANs and High Frequency Bands. Students posed questions on practical problems being posed in the process. The principal J.V. Ramanjaneyulu was present.
