MP wants debate with CPI(M) on land issue

Special Correspondent

Party's reaction to YSR's handing over land flayed

Vundavalli Arun Kumar

HYDERABAD: Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar has challenged the State leadership of the CPI(M) for a debate on land reforms.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday along with R. Suryaprakasha Rao, MLA, Mr. Arun Kumar said the CPI(M) leadership should introspect whether it was doing the right thing in opposing the "good work of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy."

`Ridiculous'

He said the party's demand that Dr. Reddy be prosecuted for handing over his family lands to the Government for distribution among the poor was ridiculous.

It was strange that the CPI(M), which was in the forefront of land struggles, was joining hands with the TDP, the TRS and the BJP in seeking action against the Chief Minister, he said.

"Are there instances of arresting someone for handing back lands? The Left parties had launched several struggles in the past and occupied lands belonging to the rich. In how many cases were the landlords arrested?" he quipped.
