`Police, administration being misused'

Bid to protect factional interests of CPI(M): KPCC chief

ALAPPUZHA: The State administration is protecting the interests of one of the factions of the CPI(M) state unit and the police and other wings of the administration are being misused to oppress political opponents, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the All-Kerala District Cooperative Bank Employees' Congress (AKDCBEC) State conference being held here, Mr. Chennithala said the State administration was being controlled from the AKG Centre, the State headquarters of the CPI(M). The KPCC president said the repeated incidents violence occurring in Alappuzha district was an example of the degenerated law and order situation in the State under the LDF rule.

He said attempts by a section of the CPI(M) cadres to attack media persons at Muhamma in the district were deplorable. A section of CPI(M) workers had recently abused and threatened reporters who went to Muahmma to report attacks on houses of some CPI(M) leaders.

`Hasty act'

Mr. Chennithala said the State Government had drafted the professional colleges Act hastily and that was the cause for the present fate of the Act. He said the State Government had not approved the amendments brought in by the Opposition in the Assembly when the Bill was discussed.
