All set for today's Pulse Polio immunisation drive

2,000 volunteers to be deployed


  • Vaccine will be administered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 1,073 booths to function in different parts of district

    PATHANAMTHITTA: The Health department has made elaborate arrangements for the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme to be held in two phases, on January 7 and February 11.

    Addressing a press conference at the Collectorate conference hall here on Saturday, District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh and District Medical Officer N. Damodaran said Minister for Transport and Registration Mathew T. Thomas would formally inaugurate the programme at a district-level function to be held at the Taluk Hospital in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

    They said the vaccine would be administered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A total of 1,073 booths would function in different parts of the district as part of the immunization programme on Sunday.

    Besides 12 transit booths, a total of 10 mobile booths would also be deployed, the DMO said.

    He said pulse polio booths would be opened at all Government hospitals, primary health centres, sub-centres, Anganwadis, libraries, schools, tribal settlements, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus stations, private bus stations and at the Thiruvalla Railway Station. Each booth will be managed by two volunteers, besides a supervisor for every 10 booths.

    The State Surveillance Officer of the programme, Asha Raghavan, said the programme would cover as many as 1,09,712 children in the district below five year years of age. Dr. Damodaran said arrangements have also been made for opening booths at Nilackal, Pampa, Appachimedu, Sannidhanam and Gavi in the forest areas on Sunday. He said that a total of 2,000 volunteers and 150 supervisors would be deployed.
