Trade unions oppose extension of service for official

PALAKKAD: The major trade unions in the Central public sector Instrumentation Ltd. at Kanjikode, near here, have opposed the extension of service of its executive director as adviser after the period of expiry of his superannuation on December 31, 2006.

In a statement here on Friday, CITU State president and Instrumentation Workers' Union leader M. Chandran, MLA, said the workers would oppose the move to appoint Mr. Mahendra Varma as the new adviser against norms and conventions.

The CITU and INTUC unions of the company in their joint letter on December 22 to Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Sontosh Mohan Dev have demanded that Mr. Mahendra Varma not be given any extension.
