Tribal handicrafts exhibition, folk arts fete inaugurated

PALAKKAD: Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes A.K. Balan inaugurated a tribal handicrafts exhibition and folk arts festival at the Fort Maidan here on Saturday.

The exhibition, organised jointly by the Department for Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes and KIRTADS, will be on till January 13.

Tribal dance and other folk art forms will be held at the exhibition ground every day. Sale and exhibition of tribal handicrafts is also being organised.

Tribal healers from Attapady and other tribal belts also have stalls at the exhibition.

K.K. Divakaran, MLA, presided over the inaugural meeting. MP N.N. Krishnadas; district panchayat president Subida Ishaq; Department for Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Principal Secretary Romanus Horo; and District Collector B. Suman spoke.
