NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna bounced back twice to draw level with Russia's Alexander Morozevich but lost in the final tie-break game of their opening round match of the first ACP World Rapid chess Cup at Odessa, Ukraine, on Saturday. Morozevich's 3-2 victory saw him join Peter Leko, Sergey Rublevsky, Alexei Shirov and Boris Gelfand in the quarterfinals. Three other first-round games were slated later in the day. Playing black, Morozevich won the opening 20-minute rapid game in 34 moves but Hari returned the favour in 54 moves of the second. In the first of the two-five minute blitz tie-break game, Morozevich won with white pieces in 42 moves. Undeterred, Hari hit back with white pieces in the fourth game following a 44-move triumph. Other results (first round): Sergey Rublevsky (Russia) bt Arkadij Naiditsch (Germany) 1.5-0.5; Alexei Shirov (Spain) bt Ilia Smirin (Israel) 1.5-0.5; Boris Gelfand (Israel) bt Hikaru Nakamura (USA) 2-0.
