CHENNAI: Speakers hailed Ashok Kumbhat's contribution to cricket at a condolence meeting held at TNCA Club here on Saturday. Kumbhat, who held different posts from treasurer to secretary in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness. N. Srinivasan, president, TNCA, mentioned how difficult it was to hold important positions in industry and professional bodies and juggle them with sports. Kumbhat managed them successfully, he said. R. Balu Alaganan, former president, TNCA, recollected how during the AGM, Kumbhat as treasurer of TNCA, would come prepared with facts and figures and explain them lucidly. His points were precise and clear, added Alaganan. Alaganan also talked about Kumbhat's sharp memory and involvement. S. Kesavan, secretary, YMA & TSC Club, revealed how as treasurer of TNCA, Ashok Kumbhat introduced the concept of having stands in sponsor's name at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. K. Mohan, secretary, Venkateswara CC, S. Raghavan, secretary, Chatnath RC and Muthukrishnan, secretary, Ranji CC, also spoke. Shanthi Kumbhat, brother of Ashok Kumbhat, thanked the TNCA for its gesture.
