Thumping win for Thanjavur

Virudhunagar: Thanjavur scored a thumping 5-1 victory over Theni in a first round match in the State senior inter-district football championship organised by Virudhunagar District Football Association at the District stadium on Saturday.

Premnath (21st minute), Muruganantham (44th), Suresh (46th), Santhosh (65th) and Ramesh (68th) scored for Thanjavur. Sivakumar (71st) scored the consolation goal for Theni.

In another first round match, Ramanathapuram edged past Kanchipuram 3-0. Panju Rajan (20th, 80th) scored a brace and Nishanth (73rd) scored one.

Hat-trick by Jothi

A hat-trick by Jothi and a brace by Muppidari helped Friends Football Club `A' post an emphatic 5-0 victory over Friends Football Club `B' in the Tuticorin District Football Association `A' division league at Tharuvai stadium, Tuticorin, on Saturday.

Earlier results: Tuticorin Port Sports Council 1 (Pruston) drew with Vilson FC 1 (Selvam); South Coast FC 1 (Dhanapal) drew with Friends FC `B' 1 (Ponnurathnam); Kovilpatti Town FC 0 drew with St. Beneldes FC 0.

Selection trials
