CHENNAI: A quarterfinalist last year, India's Anaka Alankamony did one better by moving into the semifinals in the girls' under-13 section with a creditable win in five games over higher-rated Egyptian Kanzy El Dafrawy in the British Junior Open squash being held at Sheffield, England. A trainee at the ICL Academy in Chennai, Anaka began badly losing the opening two games. But thereafter she regained her touch and played near flawless squash to wear down the Egyptian girl in 45 minutes. Anaka plays another Egyptian top seed Nour El Sherbeny in the last four. Saumya Karki also made it to the semifinals beating teammate Sachika Balvani in straight games. Saumya too meets an Egyptian opponent next, the 3/4 seed Salma Esmat. The results: Girls (quarterfinals): Under-13: Anaka Alankamony (Ind) bt Kanzy El Dafrawy (Egy) 2-9, 9-10, 9-7, 9-2, 9-3; Saumya Karki (Ind) bt Sachika Balvani (Ind) 9-6, 9-6, 10-9.
