JAIPUR: Rajasthan University will launch a new project for establishing a Centre for Converging Technologies to mark its Diamond Jubilee on Monday. The Governor and Chancellor of universities in the State, Pratibha Patil, will lay the foundation stone. The new centre is being established at a cost of Rs. 4 crores sanctioned by former Rajya Sabha Member R.P. Goenka from his MP Local Area Development Fund. This is the largest amount of money given so far to the university from the MP Fund. Vice-Chancellor N.K. Jain told reporters here on Saturday that an integrated Master of Science course in converging technologies would be started this year for the students passing out 10+2 with a minimum of 60 per cent marks. Dr. Jain said the Foundation Day celebrations would highlight the "strong, concerted and transparent measures'' taken for improving academic atmosphere in the university. The oldest university of the State was established on January 8, 1947. Dr. Jain said the UGC had recognised Zoology, Chemistry and Philosophy Departments as Centres of Advanced Studies and released a grant of . 2.5 crores to them for the next five years.
