BHUBANESWAR: Even as industrialisation in Orissa was touching a new high and top IT companies were arriving one after the other, the official website of the State Government http://orissagov.nic.in/ continues to suffer from a series of deformities. A few clicks on the home page of the website which acts as a gateway for outsiders show it all. A click on the `search' link, just below the masthead, takes the visitor nowhere. For any word you type in the search box, no document is found. The `citizen services' section has link pages devoted to police stations, and hospitals and nursing homes. But these pages only contain information about police stations and healthcare facilities in Bhubaneswar. A hit on the `press release' link opens a page which has only one release pertaining to disinvestment of two ventures of the Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa Limited. The release was issued by the Department of Public Enterprises way back in 2002. The `news archive' section also lacks in having the required information. It does not have any information about the happenings between February and July last year. The section named `C.M.'s office' has nothing except the bio-data of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and achievements. There is no other information available on its link page. The `calendar' section continues to show the State Government's calendar for 2006 even six days after the arrival of the New Year. The home page even suffers from spelling errors. The word `newspaper' has been written as `news paper' at two places on the portal's home page from where one gets the links to different Oriya and English dailies. There is a serious error on the link to the e-mail addresses. Although the State has 21 Lok Sabha MPs, e-mail IDs of only Anadi Sahu and Prasanna Acharya are given. Interestingly, Mr. Sahu has ceased to be a Member of Parliament since 2004 general elections. The same is in the case of MLAs. Although there are 147 MLAs in the State, one finds e-mail IDs of only two MLAs. Half-baked data The portal declares that the Information Technology Department is the nodal department for the website and respective departments were responsible for their information. But no department seems to be serious about the portal carrying half-baked data. The `annual report' section contains reports of only three departments of which the report of Women and Child Development has no data in the link page. The Panchayati Raj Department has a report, but it is of 2002-2003.
