Care centre for AIDS patients opened

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: Out of the total of 1.35 lakh people who had undergone the HIV/AIDS test till December end, 4,072 were detected to be contracted the virus in the district. Of them, 546 were innocent pregnant women, according to an official release.

The dreaded disease has been fast spreading in the district.

In view of the fact, the Nirmala Society opened up a care and support centre at Lingampet mandal headquarter to provide healthcare to the AIDS patients.

Expressing surprise over the opposition coming from some people on the construction of the centre in the area by the Nirmala Society, Collector I.S. Sri Naresh and the District Medical and Health Officer P. Kodandapani appealed to them to understand the effort in a positive way.

"Let us welcome the society's decision to set up the care and support centre as it will stand as support to the AIDS patients," they said.
