CPI(M), TDP walk out of ZP meet

Members squat in front of Zilla Parishad building

NALGONDA: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) walked out of the Zilla Parishad general body meeting alleging that ZP Chairperson Kasireddy Narayana Reddy was not allowing them to speak on important issues on Saturday.

Led by Julakanti Ranga Reddy, CPI (M) MLA of Miryalaguda, and Uma Madhava Reddy of the TDP, the members later squatted in front of the ZP building and raised slogans against "the highhandedness" of the Chairperson.

"We were left with no option but to walk out of the meeting as we don't have either freedom of expression or protection in the House. Unless and until the Chairperson mends his ways, we won't allow the House to take up any issue," Mr. Ranga Reddy told reporters. Ms. Uma alleged that Mr. Narayana Reddy deliberately did not allow the Opposition members to speak on an important power issue.

The problem started after the lunch session during which power issue was taken up for discussion. CPI (M) floor leader Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy took serious objection to certain remarks made by the Chairperson . He was critical about "clumsy report" submitted to the house of the electricity officials.

"Rude comments"

Taking strong objection to "rude comments against the Chair" a section of young Congress members rushed toward the CPI (M) members. Heated arguments took place between the rival groups .

While the TDP members led by Mohan Reddy sided with the CPI (M), the Congress MLA of Suryapet Vedasu Venakaiah's efforts to pacify the members proved futile.

However Mr. Narayana Reddy said that he had only asked the members to stick to the rules book and give due respect to the chair.
