Playground restored for public use

Special Correspondent

  • A sports pavilion will be built in the playground
  • MESCOM has been given an alternative plot

MANGALORE: Shantinagar playground, which is the only playground in south Mangalore, has been restored for public use.

Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) was planning to set up a sub-station in it. The district administration has directed the MESCOM to use an alternative plot in Jeppu for the purpose.

People of Jeppu had protested against the MESCOM's move. The administration has directed the Save Shantinagar Ground Action Committee go ahead with construction of a sports pavilion in the playground. The MESCOM officials said that the sub-station would be set up in a 1.11-acre plot in Jeppu. The Under Secretary of Revenue Department had written to the Deputy Commissioner of the district that the land in Jeppu had been cleared for the construction of the sub-station.
