Welfare boards disburse Rs. 10.46 crore

CHENNAI: The welfare boards for unorganised workers have disbursed nearly Rs. 10.46 crore in the last six months, as against Rs 13.40 crore distributed during the five years of the previous regime, Labour and Employment Minister T.M. Anbarasan has said.

At a meeting of Labour Department officials and trade union leaders here, he said through the construction workers welfare board, 26,000 workers were given Rs 8.21 crore in assistance in the last six months, against Rs. 22.94 crore given to 66,300 workers during the previous regime.

Monthly pension to the tune of Rs 47.33 lakh was sanctioned to 702 workers in the last seven months, as against Rs. 52.85 lakh given to 1,156 workers in the last five years.

To settle disputes in industries, the Government had initiated negotiations between unions and the managements.
